Floods are some of the most destructive natural disasters and can occur near any body of water. As the population increases, more and more people are moving into areas prone to flooding that were once considered uninhabitable.
Steel sheet piles are used extensively throughout our levee systems in southern Louisiana and other low-lying flood plains to secure areas at risk for flooding. The disaster in New Orleans from Hurricane Katrina has placed a national spotlight on the preparedness of flood-protection systems. The speed of construction of sheet pile walls makes them an attractive option for the construction of the long walls necessary for levees.
